The Suzuki GSX-R 1000 6th gen

The sixth generation of the Suzuki GSX-R 1000, which has been in production since 2017.

This generation marked a significant milestone in the evolution of the GSX-R 1000, as it introduced a completely new engine design that produces an impressive 199 horsepower. This is a substantial increase in power compared to previous generations, making it one of the most powerful bikes in its class.

The introduction of Suzuki's first ride-by-wire throttle system in this generation is another noteworthy development.

 

This system replaces the traditional mechanical linkage between the throttle grip and the throttle body with an electronic signal, improving throttle response and fuel efficiency. First Generation (2001-2002)

The GSX-R 1000 was introduced to replace the GSX-R 1100. It was designed to compete with the Honda CBR954RR, Yamaha YZF-R1, and the Kawasaki ZX-9R. The first generation featured a 988cc inline-four engine that produced 160 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful bikes in its class at the time.

Second Generation (2003-2004)

The second generation saw significant upgrades to the engine, with a displacement increase to 999cc. The power output was also increased to 164 horsepower. This generation also saw the introduction of Suzuki's Dual Throttle Valve system, which improved throttle response and fuel efficiency.

Third Generation (2005-2006)

The third generation of the GSX-R 1000 introduced a new engine design that was more compact and lighter than its predecessor. The power output was increased to 178 horsepower. This generation also saw the introduction of Suzuki's Drive Mode Selector, which allowed the rider to choose from three different engine maps for different riding conditions.

Fourth Generation (2007-2008)

The fourth generation saw another increase in power output to 185 horsepower. This generation also introduced Suzuki's first traction control system, which improved the bike's handling and safety.

Fifth Generation (2009-2016)

The fifth generation saw a major redesign of the GSX-R 1000. The engine was redesigned to be more compact and lighter, and the power output was increased to 191 horsepower. This generation also saw the introduction of Suzuki's first quick-shifter, which allowed for clutches upshifts.

 

Sixth Generation (2017-Present)

The current generation of the GSX-R 1000 features a completely new engine design that produces 199 horsepower. This generation also introduced Suzuki's first ride-by-wire throttle system, which improves throttle response and fuel efficiency.
